Thousands of Muslims in New York and New Jersey, Sunday, August 11, 2019, performed the first Eid prayer at the famous MetLife Stadium in northeastern United States.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy congratulated the state’s Muslim community during a visit to the stadium during the prayer.
This is the first time that the stadium administration has allowed Muslims to hold prayers inside it, after nearly eight years of negotiations between the two sides.
Videos and pictures of prayers from inside the stadium were filled with social media.
The Anatolia news agency said women, children and thousands of Muslims of different nationalities and ethnicities participated in the prayer and exchanged greetings among themselves.
Thousands of Muslims also performed Eid prayers at the American Religion Center in Maryland, near Washington.
The Anatolian agency said the center of the American religion – one of America’s largest mosques – received thousands of Muslims from the states surrounding Maryland.
On Sunday, millions of Muslims around the world celebrated the coming of Eid al-Adha, which falls on the tenth of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, at a time when more than two million Muslims are performing Hajj.
