Floods in the US city of New Orleans threatened by a storm could turn into a hurricane

New Orleans is preparing for the arrival of the strongest tropical storm this season, which could turn into a hurricane Friday, prompting the governor of Louisiana, where the city is located, to declare a state of emergency.

“It is too early to know the impact of the storm, but it will certainly have an impact,” city mayor Laotia Cantrell told a news conference. “The rains have hit more than 20 percent of the city. We will spend only three hours. “There will be more rain on the New Orleans.”

The city of Louisiana has been hit by floods and storms since Wednesday morning. In some neighborhoods, torrential rains have flooded the streets. About 10,000 homes were barred from electricity.
