Donald Trump mocks ‘Pocahontas’ Elizabeth Warren as she kicked of her 2020 White House run

Democrat Elizabeth Warren has officially kicked off her 2020 White House run, unbowed by a row over her Native American ancestry that has threatened to nip her campaign in the bud.

Last night, US President Donald Trump responded to the announcement that announcement through his official Twitter account:

Today Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to by me as Pocahontas, joined the race for President. Will she run as our first Native American presidential candidate, or has she decided that after 32 years, this is not playing so well anymore? See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!

Mr. Trump, who has repeatedly referred to Ms. Warren as “Pocahontas,” did so again on Twitter on Sunday, then took it a step further, writing that if Ms. Warren “did this commercial from Bighorn or Wounded Knee instead of her kitchen, with her husband dressed in full Indian garb, it would have been a smash!”

The Democrat is hoping her pledge to fight economic inequality and build “an America that works for everyone” will help distinguish her in an already crowded field.
